and being able to perform the lay-up quickly and successfully.

This Give and Go Drill is fairly easy to implement into any practice schedule or time frame. You will basically divide your players up into four separate lines. Two side by side near/above the top of the key, and one at each wing area of the court, left and right. The players in each of the two lines up top will have balls, and will begin the drill by making a good crisp pass to the player on the wing to their side of the court...this would be the "Give".As soon as the pass is initiated, those players will then cut down toward and into the lane(around an obstacle, if preferred), and will receive return pass from the wing player, essentially catching the ball and driving in for the lay-up on their respective sides. This is the "Go".
Note: It is quite alright if the player has to take one or two quick dribbles to keep from traveling, or in order to gain their proper footing as they make the shot.
After the wing player makes the return pass he/she will move to the back of the top line on their side. Players who have cut and shot lay-up will get their own rebound, pass the ball back out to the next person in the top lines on their side, them move to the back of wing line. Drill will resume.
Of all the basketball tips for lay-ups a coach could use, this is by far the easiest for kids to do, so rather than making them switch to opposite side lines each time, which can be somewhat confusing for young players, we have set it up so that each group will work the drill from one particular side at a time. To work on other hand, simply switch the players of the two lines on one side out with the others and repeat as necessary. Wishing you success!
