Basketball Training: Advanced Dribbling Drills for the Individual Player
Advanced Drills for the Individual-One on One Dribbling Moves to stun your defender
These are combo moves you can practice and perfect on your on that will make you a bigger offensive threat as well as keep your defender always on edge while trying to keep up with where you will go next.
*Note*: Always execute these drills while facing the goal from near the top of key or wing area in order to help you learn how to finish the play as well.
Dribble, Step-back, Crossover, Drive: 1: With either hand take two or three hard dribbles in one direction as if trying to drive around a defender.
2: Without picking up dribble, abruptly halt your forward motion, and take a quick step backward while keeping dribble alive.
3: Execute a quick front, between the legs, or behind the back cross-over, bringing the ball over to opposite hand.
4: Drive in hard for the score
Double Cross-over/Drive: 1: Beginning from a stationary position anywhere around the wing, top of key area, take a few hard low dribbles with whichever hand you choose to start off with. Remember to have feet set, body and ball low.
2: Execute a quick, low cross-over, then immediately cross back over to starting hand.
3: At the moment the ball is coming back into your beginning hand, you should have already begun your froward momentum.
4: Drive the ball in hard for the score.
Reverse into Between Legs Cross-over: This is a drill/move that will take quite a bit of work, and time to master. So go through it slowly at first, and then gradually pick up your speed as you get more comfortable and efficient at the moves.
1: Taking the ball in your dominate hand, begin your dribble/drive in that direction.
2: After a few hard dribbles, execute a reverse pivot while bringing your body around, at the same time bringing the ball over into your other hand.
3: Your foot that was not used to pivot on should now be out ahead of your pivot foot. Once you have committed yourself to the other direction, immediately bring the ball down and bounce through your legs, which will bring the ball back into the starting hand, and will have you once again going toward the direction you started from.
This move when learned and used correctly, will leave the defender thinking you are going one way on the reverse, only to be left shaking their heads when they realize(too late) that you are actually still going the other with a between the legs cross-over.
Note: Remember this move is extremely difficult, but is a potent weapon when mastered.
Reverse into Double Cross-over: This drill is is done exactly the same as the Reverse into BTL Cross-over, with one exception. After you have completed the reverse, instead of bringing the ball through the legs, use a quick double cross-over as if going back the original direction when in reality you switchback again going the other.
Double Cross-over defined: A Double Cross-over is where you begin with the ball in one hand, dribble the ball into the other hand, and then quickly cross back over again to the original hand all in one swift motion.
