Simply Youth Basketball Shooting Drills

SHOOTING DRILL #5: Pick, Cut, and Shoot

Using this drill your team will learn the basic principles and effectiveness of the pick, and the value of using it to get open. It will also help improve their jump-shot, as well as their instincts for the shot.

Line 1 is high outside. Line 2 is on opposite wing, just above foul-line extended. Line 3 is positioned with first player around center of free-throw line.

To begin P3 moves out several feet and sets screen for P2 who is cutting by coming to the ball-side elbow.

P1 makes pass to P2. P2 pivots, squares, shoots, and follows to get their own rebound.

If you are just using one or two balls then P2 will pass ball to next person in Line 1, then move to the back of that line.

After pass, P1 will move to the back of Line 3.

After screen, P3 will move to the back of line 2.
