Fun Games for Youth Basketball: Free-Throw Challenge
This will be another timed game with two teams pitted against one another. Great way to get kids to focus and be seriousabout the importance of good free-throw shooting. The philosophy is that a lot of games have been won or lost at the foul line. This is no different. Actually, the team who makes more of their free-throws wins, plain and simple.
Each of the two teams will set up around the lane at their end of the court just as if they were shooting free-throw during a game. Each player will have their place. Coaches, assistant/parent will act as referee and score keeper. On whistle first player will get set, take shot, and if made shoot again when ref throws them the ball back. If they miss first shot that player doesn't get second shot, and they have to move out allowing niext player to move in to shoot as team rotates around the lane.
This drill would best be run for at least 5 minutes, otherwise the players will probably not get to shoot as much as you would like. You can adjust this time yourself to what you feel is best suited for you.
When time expires, the team who has made the most free-throws is the winner.
