Youth Basketball Offense Overview
There are so many Basketball Offenses and Plays out there today that it should be easy to find one that you can use. We only wish this were the in youth basketball. It is difficult to use a set offense at this level, but it can be done. But as so many of us learn...just because it works well for one does not mean it will necessarily work for us. The gambit of Offensive schemes is different in every league, with every team. We must find what works for us for our particular team. Some Offenses use a lot of constant
Motion
to get their points. While some might used a more
Inside/Out
oriented style of play. Others may use any number of
Set Plays
to make things happen. And some may use a combination of any of the three. Regardless of what Offense any team runs, the overall goal of each is the same...to manipulate and exploit the weakness of the defense in order to score, and ultimately... to win! Basketball Offense is a mixture of many different elements. A team must be very good at all of them, or amazingly talented at a few to be successful. The elements that make up the anatomy of any successful Offense are: Player characteristics(good work ethic, talent, quick wits, confidence, and game knowledge), an Offense which fits the needs and ability's of the team, Good
Fundamentals (Dribbling, Passing, Shooting)
, and last but certainly not least, a Players ability to move without the ball. We all know the importance of the basic fundamentals. But something that all to often is not emphasized enough is movement. Your players ability to move with or without the ball is honestly the most reliable tell(sign) of what your team can truly be and do.

No matter what Offense you choose to implement, Movement is the key to them all. Without the players on your team have, at the least, a general knowledge of this concept, the rest of your offensive plans will be greatly hindered. We don't make the claim that the offenses you find on our site will be practical for every youth team. Nor will they be compatible to any age. What we do promise is that for all age divisions they will be very useful in teaching your players the concept of moving on offense, and could possibly be used with older players as your primary offensive set once they have a grasp of the basics. Over the years we have used several of these ourselves with great success!
