One of several nice youth basketball passing drills which does not require a lot of stress or strain to your players, yet gives them a good basic feel for the fundamental details of making a quality pass to another team mate.
Pass and Follow Drill
In this drill six players will be positioned around the general area that is shown in the diagram. All other players should be divided up in lines behind the first two players at top shown.
To begin, the two players up top will both have a basketball, and will begin passing to the player on their side that is set out on the wing. Wing players will make appropriate pivot(each players baseline side foot), and pass to low-post. Low-post player will then pivot(lane-side foot) and pass to next player who has come to the front of the beginning pass lines on the opposite side of them.
Each player who makes a pass will follow their pass, and will take up the position of the player whom they have passed to who has left their position.
Important Note: Make sure that players who pass, and then follow from low-past area to top, move up through the lane, going to the inside of the two lines to get in back of the line. Otherwise, if they try running around the outside of the lines out top they will interrupt the drill by moving into the path of the pass and/or passer.
