Simply Youth Basketball Last Second Plays
LAST SECOND PLAY #1

This is a last-second play from the half-court area. It will also work in the case of it being three-quarter court too. This play has been effective for us numerous times for the simple reason that it is hard for a coach to play a complete zone in a last second situation and give up a free shot. Most of the time you are probably going to have at the most one man back near goal and the others will attempt to run a Man-to-Man. If you run this just right, I would wager that you will at least get an open look at the goal. And it is easy for five good kids to pick up.SET UP: P3 has ball. P1, P2, and P4 are stacked in single file directly in line with P3. Make sure they are out on the court a ways, so as to give P3 room to pass, and not make it easy on defense. P5 is set up below a few feet from stack. PLAY: On P3's signal, P5 sets screen for P2, who cuts around and moves down wing toward basket. P1 turns and comes around upper side of stack, and around the back, breaking long toward opposite wing, top of key area. P4 steps out quickly and sets screen for P5, who will roll and cut down into lane. P4 will then also roll and follow. P3 should, in most cases have P2, or P1 open for a shot, or a dump off to P5 or P4.
LAST SECOND PLAY #2

This is another play that can be run from the half-court area.P4 and P5 are set up on each elbow. P1 and P2 are set up above them around top of key. On signal from P3, P4 and P5 will move diagonally to set screen for P1 and P2 opposite them. P1 will come off screen to ball side, looking for a pass from P3 on the cut. P2 will come off screen to off-side in hopes of a lob over the top. P5 will drop, with P4 following.
LAST SECOND PLAY #3

This is basically another inbound play underneath your own goal, and can be used as such if a team is running a Man-to-Man.P4 sets up on ball-side wing. P5 sets up on off-side wing. P1 is on ball-side elbow, while P2 is positioned down on off-side low block. On signal, P4 sets screen for P1 who cuts around and down to receive pass for shot or lay-up. P4 rolls into middle of lane for possible pass. P5 sets screen for P2 who pops out on opposite baseline. P5 then cuts and posts hard on ball-side low block.
LAST SECOND PLAY #4

This is a play we have used in a situation where we had only a few seconds to get the ball the entire length of the court. In this situation we like to use one of our big men to make the pass so that we have all three of our guards out to receive the ball.
P4 gives signal.P3 and P1 are stacked. P3 sets screen fro P1, who rolls and goes long down the side to far wing, ball-side. P5 is at opposite foul line area. P5 moves up to top of key to set screen for P2 who has cut down, and then around screen. P2 cuts down through lane, ball-side. P5 rolls and cuts down through lane on off-side. Both look for pass from P1. Note: In the instance that P1 does not get the initial pass, you can call time. When you do, you may have to get P2 and P5 change places on the set-up. This will allow P5 to screen away for P2 to cut to ball. After P5 screens for P2, have him/her turn and set pick out on wing for P1 to cut to goal to receive pass from P2.
